Principle to Purpose with Cows – Freestyle & Finesse Level 3/4 – 5 Day Horsemanship Camp.

It is not just about the cows, but a way of developing your horsemanship through purpose. Over the 5/10 days you will help you develop your feel, timing and balance while playing with cows. Your horse will learn 10 times faster once he sees the reason by adding the purpose. You will learn how continue to use purpose to progress your horsemanship without sacrificing your principles, this takes time to understand & develop.

  • Become more than a rider, become a horseman.

When playing with cows, you will understand more about prey animals and how they can be influenced. Understand how the driveline, flight zone & balance point work and how important it is for them to learn through Pressure & Relief.

IMPULSION, the importance of a independent seat through Freestyle Riding and our horses mental and emotional collection, enabling us to then ask them to become more physically collected, when working with cows.

Fun with these Tasks.

  • Out Run – impulsion, independent seat.
  • Roll Backs – impulsion, stops, back up and forequarter turns. (No Leg in the turn, snappy departures)
  • Tracking and Rating – impulsion, independent seat.
  • Rodear – Physical collection, respecting your leg & counter arcs.
  • Falling leaf in the saddle – moving the forequarters, and leg yields (fade away)
  • Riding with one hand – respecting your leg, positioning your legs A, B, C, D & E. Locking your elbow, only lift to stop the drift.

Develop good STOP BACK UP AND FOREQUARTER TURN, and how when working with cattle, it is essential to do a Square turn, leg positions, and do you get an appropriate response to pressure. The importance of…

Slow and right, beats fast and wrong.

More tasks, asking for more speed. Remember what you have learnt, at any stage, slow it down get more understanding. Separate Isolate and recombine.

  • Working the flag.
  • Riding out and mustering cattle.
  • Tracking and rating with fade away, stop and turn the cow.
  • Rope handling, roping with break away, dallying.
  • Dragging a rope, dragging an object.

I want you to all think about, in your warmups, how can I continue to make small amounts of progress each day, to help my horse continue on an upward progressive plain?

Empowerment is one of Pat’s most important aspects of his program, so when you leave Coolibah you have a path to follow, and goals to achieve. But most importantly the message received from this camp is that the message is clear, and that you can see the importance of the Parelli system – Rapport, Respect Impulsion, flexion and how this makes your horse mentally, emotional & physically fit, so you can ride a horse that is SMART, BRAVE & MORE ATHLETIC.

Because – Nothing Beats FAST & RIGHT.

Respect, does your horse yield with respect and without fear, teach your horse to respect your leg, and have the appropriate response to pressure. Learn the importance of  turning your toe out, and to use your leg in the correct position, A Back up B move the forequarters & Leg yield, C sideways & yield D & E yield the hindquarters.

Impulsion, progress and aim to ride with your arms folded and your horse maintain gait & direction and look where he is going, develop a Whoa equal to your Go. How to back up and sideways with no reins?

Flexion, what are the steps to pick up the reins and ask for some collection and nothing changes, and then let the reins go and nothing changes.

“If you loose the rhythm you loose the game” Pat Parelli.

More fun tasks

  • Moving around the cattle, like that sneaky cutting horse, can we defend (give ground) the line, with a falling leaf pattern in the saddle?
  • Cutting a cow, do we have more than 3 good moves in you, Forequarter Turns.
  • Roll Backs, with the goal to be able to flow and tip the nose and limit the back up.
  • Tracking with a fade away (leg yields) stopping the cow, and turning the cow and tracking again.
  • Rope handling, roping a cow and dallying up with a break away.
  • Working the flag.
  • Forequarter turns, 360 keeping your hindquarters in a hoolahoop.

I look forward to the opportunity to be able to help you make changes & progress to your horsemanship and take your impulsion and flexion systems to a new level of awareness and responsiveness.

The Key ingredients in having the right attitude are principles, purpose & time. The idea is to teach your horse principles, such as the six yields, while you are on the ground. Then you are going to add purpose to it. For example, loading your horse into a horse trailer is a purpose after he has learned the principle of yielding. Then, take the time it takes so it take less time. In other works, don’t hurry your horse when teaching him principles and giving him purpose or challenges. Take your time and make sure he understands the lesson. Take the time now and go slowly. When you take time on principles and take time on purpose, the next thing you know in no time, you’ll have that horse you wouldn’t take a million dollars for.

LEADS & LEAD CHANGES 5 day camp – WORKING THE LEAD CHANGE LADDER

Who does NOT want to achieve this goal, to be good with leads and lead changes, understanding leads and lead changes are an important part of becoming a great horseman.

This is a 5 day camp where we will work through the lead change ladder, in this final week (optional) of my May Camps 2021, with the ultimate goal in mind flying lead changes, although you may not achieve this over the 5 days, it will set you up with all the understanding and ingredients needed to work on so you can reach this goal sooner.

  • What is the lead change ladder?
  • What is the sequence of the lead change ladder?
  • How do I work through each ingredient and when do I ask for a change?

Pat reminds us, that nothing can make your horse more emotional than Leads and Lead changes, this is why it is so important to learn and teach it in a way that you are able to swing it up, ask for more and then be able to take care of your horse emotionally by helping them come back down emotionally before asking again.

Join me for this final week of my MAY CAMPS 2021 and take home these arrows in your quiver.

Open to all student Level 2-4, no matter where you are you are on the lead change ladder.
